Doomsday Criers: Could they be Right?

Dark Ages Happen.
We are now three months into 2012, the year that many say is going to be the year that it all falls apart.
With cries of global warming, the Mayan calender, solar flares, internal political breakdown across the globe and the realization that we live in a cosmic shooting gallery; could it be true? Are we in the last days of civilization and slipping into a new dark age? Is the Christian savior truly on the brink of returning and changing the world forever?
It could happen.
Unilateral breakdown ensues and circumstances can blindside even seemingly stable societies. It has happened before going back thousands of years and will happen again as long as there are civilizations that become vast, stagnant, top heavy, over resourced, over taxed, and set in a constant political flip flop. Change slows to a glasier pace and internal rot takes hold. In the past social breakdown inevitably came from the inside. The damage takes hold and the inescapable backslide begins even before it is recognized for what it is. Society begins falling into despair even before anyone notices the proverbial loss of grip.
Are we there already? Doomsday preparation seems to be the new trend across America. Suppliers and educators addressing the end of the world as we know it are doing booming business.

Does this blogger have an answer for this?
I wish.

In past postings on this blog I have addressed the possibility of leaving the planet and colonizing other worlds. This is a very important concept if we are going to survive as a species. Doing this could preserve some semblance of a cilivilized society.

It all comes down to the idea that we should not keep all our eggs in one basket.
